Take pictures and play with the cubs or even drive around to look at the Big Cats in this park that is open every day of the year. Situated between Lanseria Airport and Fourways, the Lion Park is home to over eighty lions and many other carnivores such as cheetah, wild dog, brown hyena, striped hyena, spotted hyena, black-backed jackal, side-striped jackal, and a wide variety of antelope. In total there are eight different large African carnivore species and seven large herbivore species such as black wildebeest, springbok, blesbok, impala, gemsbok, zebra and giraffe. These animals are all on view during a drive through four drive-through camps in the park.
The lions can be viewed closely from the comfort of your own vehicle without any danger, but for the more hands-on visitor there are places to touch sub-adult lions and lion cubs in the Cub World area. A giraffe feeding platform puts visitors at eye level with the tame resident giraffe. Shop for a gift or souvenir in the well stocked curio shop, with a variety of affordable African artifacts, souvenirs, music, videos and books. There is a restaurant or kiosk for hungry visitors who may be part of a self-drive game excursion, guided tour, schools excursions or social gathering such as the Boma Braai Buffet on Sundays and Public Holidays. For those wanting to stay longer, there is Wildside Tent Camp Accommodation to experience a truly magnificent night in the wild. These semi-luxurious tents sleep four comfortably and offer visitors a wild time.
