    Panorama route

After breakfast we embark for our days adventure.

Starting of we cruise on the N12 towards Belfast and stop in Dullstroom for pancakes, and I mean PANCAKES sweat and sour, sour, sweet, chicken cheese and and much more verities.

So after we stuffed ourselves full of pancakes we keep on cruising to the not so little town of Lydenburg, Lydenburg in Afrikaans means "Town of suffering" and this is the town were the good old voortrekkers (our ancestors) suffered because of all the losses they endure in origstad due to Malaria. In this not so little farming community you will find the first school that have been built in the Transvaal and one of the first churches. But enough of history for know.

Leaving the Town of suffering behind we head for Origstad witch once again means (the town were we felt sick) Now if this town had a welcome board the one side would say thank you for visiting and the other side thank you for leaving..... about 3 min and we are through. Now the fun starts. We bang a right and head for Gods window (weather permitting) the pinnacle and the Three rondawels. (NB more can be fit in this day depending on how we make time and the weather, if it is cloudy we wont see anything if it is a nice day you will see a lot, so there we go nice day= good, bad and cloudy day=bad.

After we have visited all the sites we head towards the town of Hoedspriut, through the JG strydom tunnel with the only waterfall that actually builds itself up instead of eroding the surface underneath, the water is so rich in sediment an minerals that it is constantly depositing matter on the surface and in that way its creating a bulge underneath the drop.

But enough of that, Hoedspruit Small little town with a lot of game farms. Keep on cruising to Phalaborwa the town that is really hot during summer. This is our days destination. We stop at the buffalo pub and grub for a" if you are a meat lover a 500g tee bone stake" and if you are a vegetarian one of the many dishes the have on offer. So we are finished, and now we head for our air conditioned bungalows on the rivers edge..... now this camp have resident hippos, elephants that pluck the marulas from the trees, buffaloes leopard and recently the newest addition- a pride of lions in the vicinity plus a variety of other species living here.

  • Overnight: Safari Tents
  • Pancakes: Between 20 and 35 rand
  • Dinner: T-bone 500gram R75.00 (Normal dish between R25.00 and R50.00)
  • Day 3

Game walk in the Kruger park/Boat cruise

Wake up call- for you that are early birds you will love this, for those who like to sleep late, well.....

04:15 and the reason for this madness you might ask yourself? well this is a game walk in the KNP (Kruger national park) With a armed ranger, you might see one or even two of the big five but nothing is guaranteed... this is a wild life reserve after all... I must say on the last walk we have seen a honey badger a really nice find.

The walk departs at 5 and finish about 11 so take water good running shoes... a hat and sunscreen.

    Breakfast/Brunch

We head into town and stop at wimpy for bacon and eggs or a health breakfast plus coffee and a red bull.

Done with that we head for the mine were we stop at the viewpoint and marvel at the big hole and the largest man made mountain.

    Siesta

You have about an hour to relax, sleep laze by the pool or reed a book. At 2:30 we depart for the boat cruise on the olifants river, now once again you will see hippos and a lot of birds, buffalo frequently come to drink and elephants cross the river, crocodiles smile at you and the registered guide gives comments on the environment and animals.

Game mostly depends on the season, sometimes you see heaps, and other times you see hippos and birds...But there is always the home made muffins and fresh coffee to look forward to. This could be a rich and rewarding experience, but it all depends on the mood of the animals and the supply of water in the reserve.

Boat cruise done after 4 hours, shower clean clothes and of we go to one of the local restaurants for dinner afterwards we hit the local night club which is a experience in itself but I wont say much about this, this is something that you would have to experience in your own way.

  • Sleep: In Safari tents
  • Breakfast: R35.00 bacon and eggs
  • Dinner: Between R25 and R75.00
  • Nightclub: Entrance R10.00 Beer about R7.00
  • Day 4

    Full day KNP

Early bird catches the worm or so they say. Early rise for today's activities. We begin our hunt for the big 5 and all that magnificent transfrontier park has to offer. It stretches for 390 km from North to South and between 60 and 90 km from East to West. So this park use to be 2.5 million hectares big, but since they incorporated Mozambique and a part of Zimbabwe its much bigger. 2500km of tarred roads and 1400km of dirt roads and even if you drive every road you have only seen 1% of the park. For breakfast and lunch we stop at one of the many rest camps.
