Deep in the spirit of the spectacular Waterberg mountain range lies a 'place of sanctuary' for an array of Africa’s wild creatures. Rolling grassy mounts and mysterious dales set within the backdrop of grandiose mountains with a wealth of wildlife illustrate the Marakele National Park
The bountiful foliage that decorate this picturesque park include 5m high cycads, lacy tree ferns, yellowwood and cedar trees, which attracts an abundance of bird life including what’s most likely the largest settlement of endangered Cape vultures, with over 800 breeding pairs. From the mighty African elephant and grazing rhino’s to the great cats as well as herds of antelope families, Marakele National Park is home.
Rest in the lavish unfenced Tlopi Tented Camp and fall asleep to the natural rhythms of the African bush and its untamed residents. This luxury camp is nestled on the banks of the tree-lined Apiesrivierpoort Dam that is fed by the Tlopi River and encircled by a photographic mountain scenery.
Accommodation at Tlopi Tented Camp consists of 10 delightfully furnished 2 bed safari tents that are fully equipped with private bathroom and kitchen. Sundowners and barbecue’s can be enjoyed on the tent’s very own veranda where golden African sunsets can be enjoyed overlooking the dam.
Safari Tents have 2 single beds cooled by fans. Fully equipped kitchen with stove and fridge, W/c and shower. Verandah with table and chairs and barbecue.
Due to Marakele hosting one of the world’s prime vulture breeding colonies, the mountain pass up to the Sentech Towers enables close encounters with these enormous birds that will leave visitors overwhelmed. Morning Bush Walks and Sunset Night drives are arranged for bird watching and game viewing.
In order to maintain the park’s ecosystem, most facilities are situated outside the park. Fuel, shops, restaurants, medical services etc.. can be found in the nearby town of Thabazimbi.
Five animals to see around Tlopi Tented Camp are:
Cape Vulture
African Elephant
Rhino
Kudu
Rare antelope such as reedbuck, mountain reedbuck, eland and tsessebe
