Day 1 Johannesburg/Kruger National Park
Sawubona! Welcome to South Africa.
Early morning on day 1 (around 5am) we depart Johannesburg, the 'City of Gold' and head off on an adventure of a lifetime. A truly unique African experience unfolds as we enter the Kruger National Park via one of the southern gates (570 km, approx 7-8 hours), stopping en route for breakfast and lunch.
The Park is home to 150 species of mammal, including Africa's famed Big Five. The staggering 507 bird species, plus the wide variety of insects, reptiles and amphibians make this the ultimate wildlife experience.
Approximately 35 km before we enter the park, we board open safari vehicles and enjoy our first exciting game drive en route to our camp, taking in the sheer beauty of the African bush along the way.
After settling into camp we venture out into the bush as we track the creatures of the night on a sunset game drive. The drive will take around 3 hours and is led by the park rangers who track the nocturnal animals by means of a spotlight.
While in Kruger we camp in two-man dome tents (bedding is provided). Our campsites are National Park facilities and generally have hot and cold showers with flushing toilets.
Day 2 Kruger National Park
After an early rise we depart our camp, departing our camp at first light. Our game drive takes us on one of the better game drive routes within the park, giving us the opportunity to view the varied landscapes, ecosystems and abundant wildlife that is unique to Kruger National Park.
Our entire day is spent game viewing, bird watching and stopping off at the various waterholes. We will take a break for lunch at one of the parks lunch spots along the way before continuing towards our camp site.
From our first camp to the next is approximately 110 km but we game drive en route, often leaving the main road. The route we follow depends entirely on sightings as does the time it will take us.
Tonight we camp in permanent dome tents with bedding provided (sleeping bags).
In the morning we have another early start to try and see more of Africa's iconic wildlife. We exit the National park around midday and make our way to a private game reserve in the Greater Kruger Area (50 km, approx 1 hour).
In the afternoon you might wish to try some optional activities in the area (refer to Trip Notes, Optional Activities) or just relax by the pool at the lodge.
Day 3 Greater Kruger National Park
In the morning we have another early start to try and see more of Africa's iconic wildlife. We exit the National park in the late afternoon and make our way to a private game reserve in the Greater Kruger Area (50 km, approx 1 hour).
Day 4 Greater Kruger National Park/Johannesburg
An early rise as we head out on a morning bush walk. Guided by a qualified nature guide, we learn about nature's finer details like bird, tree and spoor identification. After breakfast, we depart the lodge as we transfer back to Johannesburg (600 km, approx 8-9 hours), arriving in the late afternoon.
There's plenty of time to stop and explore along the way. We stop at the viewpoint over the awesome Blyde River Canyon and take in amazing views over the region.
On arrival in Johannesburg you can be dropped at the airport or at our finishing point hotel.
No accommodation is provided for tonight, but we are able to book you additional accommodation in Johannesburg. Please ask at time of booking.
