Orpen Rest Camp

Orpen Rest Camp is located in the central Kruger National Park This small main camp and acts as the entrance to the central region of the Park. Wide open plains covered with grass attract loads of browsers, which in turn attracts predators such as lion, cheetah and leopard. The camp was named after J.H Orpen, a land surveyor and member of National Parks Board who helped sponsor boreholes in the park. Eileen, his wife bought up 7 and donated them to the Park.

Orpen Rest Camp is known for its diversity of habitat and game, offering visitors an opportunity to experience up close and personal encounters with rhino, elephant, buffalo, leopard and lion in the wild.. Rabelais Dam is 7km from Orpen rest camp. Spot all kinds of African wildlife lurking around at the waterhole, wild dog, cheetah, zebra and giraffe are common to this region. Tamboti and Maroela are small satellite camps about 4km away. Orpen has a grocery store and almost every facility you may need.

Orpen Rest Camp Huts

10 huts each with two-bed rooms with communal ablutions and kitchen

2 huts with 3-bed rooms with a communal toilet and kitchen.

Orpen Rest Camp Guest Cottages

Orpen has 3 six-bed cottages. The cottages have 2 bedrooms with 3 beds each. 1 bedroom has a bathroom en-suite ,bath, toilet, and washbasin and there is a separate toilet, shower and wash basin. All cottages have fully equipped kitchenettes and a lounge.

Orpen Rest Camp gardens are covered in Aloes and Barberton Daisies, 2 birds worth seeking along the Olifants River are the White fronted and White crowned Plover. The bridge on the main tarred road are good for spotting new game.

Orpen Rest Camp activities include, morning, sunset night drives and walks.. Try the Bundu Trail or sleep over in the Ratel Pan Bird Hide.
