Gauteng may be the smallest of 9 provinces in South Africa, but it is South Africa’s premier destination as it is the commercial and economic hub of the country. Its focal point is in the wonderful city of Johannesburg, which boasts an eclectic and diverse flavour of African influences making it a popular visit amongst travellers. Upon arrival through the splendid international airport of OR Tambo, visitors will find a special African sojourn awaiting them with a number of iconic and entertaining landmarks to enjoy.
In the north of Gauteng is the country’s capital of Pretoria, which is more relaxed than Johannesburg, but is picturesque and friendly; both these amazing cities boast enviable locations with easy and direct access to major tourist hot spots like the Magaliesberg, Sun City, the Pilanesberg, and of course the world-famous Kruger National Park, which is away in the Mpumalanga province. Top attractions in Gauteng itself include the Cradle of Humankind, the Apartheid Museum, the Nelson Mandela Bridge, and the Coca Cola Dome. Muldersdrift on the West Rand is a wonderful refuge away from the hustle and bustle of busy Johannesburg.
Its country-type ambience and picturesque scenery have moulded it into a village of sorts, but its easy access to the surrounding Fourways, Randburg, and Sandton ensure that visitors can enjoy the finest of what Jo’burg has to offer. A popular attraction to visit is the Wondercave; part of a heritage site and the 3rd largest in South Africa, the Wondercave is as big as a rugby field and guests can even abseil to the bottom of it where they can view stalagmites, as well as cave pearls and pools.
