The beautiful city of Pretoria is just not a picturesque region famous for its lovely purple Jacaranda trees – it is also the capital of South Africa and home to the country’s historic Union Buildings. Compared to the hustle and bustle, and congestion of sister city Johannesburg, Pretoria – which is in the north of the Gauteng province – is relatively laidback and conservative. Its fine weather and family-centred environment make it one of the Republic’s top cities, and coupled with its fantastically central location has turned Pretoria into a sought-after destination of note.
Besides the Union Buildings, people visiting Pretoria can make a turn at the likes of Melrose House, which has important historical evidence from the time of the Anglo-Boer War, or to the famous Loftus Versfeld, which is home to the mighty Blue Bulls rugby team. Pretoria is just 45 minutes from Johannesburg and gives travellers easy access to popular South African hot spots including Sun City in the North West province and the iconic Kruger National Park in Mpumalanga. Muckleneuk is one of Pretoria’s most central locations as it is in close proximity to the city’s centre, while also having direct routes through to the prominent more sought-after areas of Waterkloof, Brooklyn, and Sunnyside.
Not to be confused with New Muckleneuk or Muckleneuk Ridge, Muckleneuk is a beautiful leafy area dominated by sturdy apartment blocks and large homes that lie just beneath the imposing University of South Africa buildings. The suburb also has the University of Pretoria in close proximity while top attractions to enjoy in the area include Freedom Park, the Austin Roberts Bird Sanctuary, and the Voortrekker Monument.
