The Melville Turret is a landmark building in Melville, Johannesburg and was built in 1906 by Erik van den Berg who owned a bicycle shop in downtown Johannesburg. Over the years the house has been used for many purposes; private residence, boarding house, architects offices, back packers lodge and now a guest house.
The house has recently been renovated, with a mix of the old and new, traditional and contemporary, with the end result been an eclectic mix but still remaining true to the original splendor and glory of the property. Step into parts of the house and you will feel you are walking into part of the history of a bygone era, with ceilings that are 4 meters high and wooden floors and then into some of the modern bedrooms with their contemporary but rather luxurious linen.
The house is stylishly decorated to create a warm and homely atmosphere for the enjoyment of guests. Guests (both local and foreign) return time and time again to the Melville Turret, due to the warm South African hospitality, friendly staff and great locality. There are a total of 9 rooms, with another one planned, all en-suite with under floor heating, telephones, TV & MNet (satellite television), tea and coffee. Please note that all our rooms are smoke free but you are welcome to smoke on the veranda.
