Two Rivers Retreat lies deep in the Crocodile River Valley, just 40 minutes from Sandton and 15 minutes from Lanseria airport. Nestling in the foothills of the Magaliesberg, perched above the confluence of the Crocodile and Jukskei rivers, is a haven of solitude. Gordon Vorster, an artist and painter ounce owned Two Rivers retreat; it is set in the midst of the Oori Private Reserve and is surrounded by indigenous bush and wildlife and towering over the ancient rock amphitheatre that dominates the ravine below, offering spectacular views.
It offers a private self-catering house for up to four people. The retreat is discreet and exclusive; you will be the only guests. Built out of natural rock, with great solid walls and wooden ceilings, the property has been immaculately restored by Gina Hall, and offers comfortable and spacious living. It is an up market and uniquely exquisite home away from home which even offers lovely books to read and attention to detail.
The high wooden ceilings compliment the magnificent chiseled Byzantine floors. A modern fully equipped kitchen allows for efficient self-catering as well as a barbecue area for outdoor cooking. Cooking essentials such as fresh eggs, milk, bread, muesli, butter, tea, coffee is provided.
Two large double bedrooms are serviced with the comforts of fine linen, antique furniture and beautiful original artworks. Upstairs, a sunny gallery leads on to a high, partly covered, magnificent, enormous and certainly breathtaking wooden deck. This is the place to watch the flocks of sacred ibises returning home in the golden glow of the setting sun.
In the winter months you will be welcomed by a roaring fire in the hearth and hot water bottles in the beds. Wake at first light and watch the sunrise over the hills in this cradle of mankind. Activities include good fishing, nature walks, birding, and exploring the Cradle of Humankind. Meals can be served with prior arrangement.
Two Rivers Retreat is within easy access of the World Heritage Site, the Cradle of Humankind, and is mere 40 minutes from Johannesburg and15 minutes from Lanseria Airport.
