Hatfield
If ever there was a suburb in Pretoria that was indicative of the status that the capital city of South Africa holds, then Hatfield would be that suburb. Hatfield is known by the locals as the embassy suburb and boasts magnificent palatial embassy homes found along wide jacaranda-lined streets. Besides its prestigious standing, Hatfield has one of the best locations not only in Pretoria, but also within the province of Gauteng. It is literally minutes from the Pretoria CBD putting travellers within easy reach of the likes of Loftus Versfeld – one of the 2010 Soccer World Cup stadiums – the University of Pretoria, and the Hatfield Entertainment and Shopping Complex, which is one of Pretoria’s most popular recreational facilities. Furthermore, Hatfield itself is home to a myriad of shops, fine restaurants, chic cafes and bistros, and many other amenities.
Hatfield has terrific access to many of Pretoria’s top monuments and landmarks including Melrose House; pop in for tea at the Stables of Melrose House and enjoy a unique guided tour of the many monuments, museums, and old buildings found in the area. Another must-visit attraction is the Union Buildings home to the South African parliament – a tour of this impressive landmark is a must for anyone on sojourn through the capital city. If you want to enjoy the many natural spectacles on offer in picturesque Pretoria, then the National Botanical Gardens in Cussonia Avenue are ideal for you. Not far from Hatfield, the National Botanical Gardens is terrific for a day trip where you can pack a picnic and enjoy the many nature trails through the fertile vegetation on offer.
