Germiston
Germiston is a city that lies in the East Rand of Gauteng, South Africa . It is located in the Witwatersrand area, southeast of Johannesburg, with substantial rail repair shops, it is undoubtedly the largest railways junction in the country. Germiston lies in the heart of the Rand goldfields and is part of one of South Africa’s most heavily industrialized areas.
There are some wonderful Germiston Landmarks. Many people come to the Germiston Lake, from the water sport fanatics, to the general public. What’s more inviting are the beautiful rolling lawns here. There is a playground which the kids enjoy and Germiston Lake generally provides an important green that makes Germiston what it is.
The lake is located close to art centres, inner-city museums as well as the Rondebult Bird Sanctuary. This clearly provides a good day’s outing, with the opportunity to picnic and bond with each other. Free entry and ample secure parking just add to the pleasure of being in the area.
Rondebult is an easily accessible wetland for residents and visitors to Gauteng, with a reputation for excellent birding. There are eight hides situated on three large pans with accessible viewing. These amazing birds include Orange breasted Waxbill, Black-crowned Night-Heron, Yellow Wagtail, Marsh Owl and African Snipe. In autumn, it is reported numerous migrant wader gather and this is a wonderful spectacle. Dams, marshland, reed beds and grasslands all form part of the sanctuary’s different habitats. Basic picnic facilities are available on this site and definitely worth your visit if you’re a bird lover.
