The cities of beautiful South Africa has incredible diversity and is steeped in rich history and culture guaranteed to give visitors a deep insight into the collective psyche of the Rainbow nation. This is none more evident than in the vibrant province of Gauteng. The smallest of the 9 states in South Africa, Gauteng boasts efficiency and excellence, making it Africa’s premier access point spear-headed by its first-class airport of OR Tambo International. The country’s capital Pretoria is in the north of Gauteng and is a nice change of pace from busy Johannesburg.
Picturesque and lovely, Pretoria is home to magnificent jacaranda-lined streets and of course the Union Buildings, which houses the nation’s parliament. One of Pretoria’s oldest suburbs is charming Eastwood; along with the other suburbs of Killberry, Eastcliffe, Lisdogan, Blackwood and Brynterion, Eastwood forms part of an area known as Arcadia, which is in close proximity to the Union Buildings and the University of Pretoria, as well as many embassies.
As it is largely frequented by students from the university, Eastwood is a relatively upmarket and trendy neighbourhood and is home to many excellent night spots, various restaurants that serve both local and international cuisine, and a range of entertainment facilities including movie theatres, plus an assortment of monuments and other historical landmarks. Eastwood also has direct access to many of Pretoria’s finest tourist attractions; these include Melrose House, Loftus Versfeld Stadium, the Pretoria National Zoological Gardens, the South African State Theatre, and the Wonderboom Nature Reserve.
