Florence Guest Farm

Nico and Ane make an excellent team. They were offered the opportunity to cater for 7000 people and they rose to the challenge, thus setting them up in a new business. We do not only produce the highest quality tasty food, but we create a festive atmosphere with our iconic three legged African pots in which we do all our cooking. Our colorful African uniforms also contribute to the warm atmosphere. Accommodation consists of three beautiful cottages and three spacious rooms, each with bathroom facilities, linen and towels.

Sandstone cottage

The Sandstone Cottage was my first love. Many visitors, including several honeymoon couples, have enjoyed this lovely suite. The Cottage was the first step to providing accommodation on the farm. It was a milk room, cum storeroom that was enlarged and revamped with a totally new roof structure. The front of the cottage was given a sandstone face-lift in order to fit in with all the other buildings on the property.

Rondavel Cottage

The previous owner, built the rondavel using stone from an old municipal reservoir. The sandstone was cut in a round shape in order to build a round structure. After being originally connected to the old homestead, it was separated during renovations to the farmhouse 1994. In 1998, I changed the old Rondavel into a Guest Cottage. The interior received a complete makeover, creating an eclectic feel. The rondavel has the best view from your bed and sleeping in front of the fireplace is a real treat. Though the rondavel is situated just next to the main house, it is completely private. The cottage was upgraded with new linen and decor in 2006.

Waenhuis Cottage

This charming cottage, with its spacious interior, has a unique country feel.

The Waenhuis cottage, which was originally built with sandstone and clay in 1938, was retained as such, including the original sink roof. (Above the entrance to the Orchid room you will find the old cornerstone with the date 1938 inscribed.) The barn was extended in 1976. In 1989, the Steinberg family bought the land and for the first few months Judas Dube and his family stayed in the barn until their house was finished. In 2001 we used it as a packing shed for organic vegetables. When the space became inadequate, Ane immediately saw its potential, started renovations and opened the first room in March 2004. The rest of the cottage was finished in Dec 2006. The beautiful front door was previously the front door of Chrissiesmeer Town Hall.

Zebra Room

The room, complemented by the wooden floor and zebra paint technique, has an African feel. Foreigners, in particular, enjoy its charm. This room is part of the main house, but has a private entrance. It was changed into a guest room in 2000 when Wilhelm, my eldest son went to boarding school. From early childhood he had an exceptional interest in hunting, and I decorated the room bearing that in mind. For example, the tiebacks were made from the horns of impala that he had hunted. The table, with kudu-horn legs, as well as the cowhide ottoman, was made by him during his high-school years. The room was upgraded with new linen and decor in 2006.

Lavender Room

The room has a soft, feminine ambience. This room is part of the main house, but with a private entrance. The room was changed into a guest room in 2001 when Helene, my eldest daughter went to boarding school. By that time, her wish was something purple. The walls were finished with the most interesting paint technique, using purple as a base. Helene is also very artistic and got an A for art in grade 12. Some of her artwork adorns the walls.

Cork Oak Room

This room is part of the main house, but with a private entrance. The room was changed into a guest room in 2003 when Jana, my youngest, went to boarding school. Jana had only two wishes when the renovations started. The room should have a double bed and a bath. It has its own beautiful sandstone bathroom with the complete roof being a skylight. The headboards and cupboards have beautiful paint-washed and crackled finishes.

"Florence Guest Farm is a home away from home. The hosts Nico and Ane make every one welcome as if you are old family friends. The atmosphere was cosy, the food good and the rooms well equipped. A really pleasant stay. "
