Boksburg
Located along the East Rand of Gauteng is one of the province’s oldest and most important suburbs – Boksburg. Named after the then State Secretary of South Africa Edward Bok, Boksburg was originally founded in 1887 with the express purpose of servicing the surrounding gold mines; furthermore, there was a main road that linked Boksburg to all the major mining towns found along the Witwatersrand. Today, Boksburg is a pivotal and diversified mining industry, and is one of the most important gold-producing towns in the region.
While Boksburg is undoubtedly best known for its origins as a mining town, there is so much more to know and see when it comes to this flourishing Gauteng town. One of the highlights here has to be the shopping and entertainment experience courtesy of the East Rand Shopping Mall. The East Rand Shopping Mall is one of the province’s greatest shopping complexes as it features all the big chain stores and restaurants, as well as a terrific variety of smaller boutiques and other shops that cater for a wide array of tastes and preferences. The mall is also home to the Fun Factory, which offers ten-pin bowling, a roller skating rink, and movie theatres, while the outdoors Wild Waters have cool water activities and fun-filled water slides.

The Boksburg Lake is a natural paradise situated on 150 000 square metres and features rolling hills, terraces, and trees.
